2008 4 v 4 League Format

 For Squirt level players (birth years 98 & 99)

· 6 Weeks, June 8th-July 13th
· rosters will be scrambled before each game
· 90 second shifts
· Adult supervision on the bench during
games
 

Purpose

4v4 hockey allows players to compete in a fast paced, unique game situation. By reducing the number of players on the ice, the game takes on a new, exciting dimension. The open ice offers more opportunities to move the puck and more opportunities for breakaways. Players are able to use and develop their skills. Teamwork becomes the focus, anticipating plays becomes a requirement,   and goalies become more involved as scoring opportunities increase.

League Rules

 

· A face-off will be conducted by the referee at the start of each period and after each goal.
 
· The attacking team must abandon the puck and clear the attacking zone if called for off-sides or icing. The defending team is given a free breakout.
 
· The attacking team must clear the attacking zone if the goalie freezes the puck. The goalie must make an effort to keep the puck in play or a delay of game minor penalty will be assessed.
 
· Line changes will occur every 90 seconds on the buzzer. Players must be within a stick length of the bench to change. Referees will whistle down any illegal line change and the puck will be awarded to the other team.
 
· A minor penalty will result in a penalty shot. In this format, both teams remain at full strength. For the penalty shot, the puck is placed at center ice with all players on the blue line behind the shooter. Once the shooter touches the puck, the puck is live and normal play resumes. In effect, the player is given a breakaway.
 
· If a player commits 3 minor penalties in a game he/she must serve three minutes (two shifts) in the penalty box. His/her team will not play a man down. If a player commits a total of 5 penalties in a game a major penalty will be assessed.
 
· A major penalty will result in a penalty shot and the ejection of the offending player.
 
· A minor penalty will be assessed if the players leave a bench door open.
 
· USA Hockey rules govern all other areas of play.
 
· The 4v4 league director reserves the right to change team rosters; change the rules; or expel any player, without refund, who cannot play within the rules of the game.

Schedule

 Play begins the week of June 8th

Sundays 8:30 – 9:30 A.M.

League Fees

· $99 Player Fees for BVYHA, YMCA & BVICE Season Pass Holders

· $120 For all Others
 
· ALL GOALIES ONLY $60
 
· Jerseys to be handed out and collected for every game

Refunds

Refunds may be granted under the following conditions:

 Maximum Registration:

· In the event a player registration cannot be honored due to maximum registration, a full refund shall be granted

Registrant Change of Heart:

· Full refund, less a $25 cancellation fee, if requested prior to June 6th· No refunds once the season has started

Injury:

· Prorated refunds may be granted in the event of injury, at the discretion of the league director.
